I was very ecited about my trip to London as it was my first time, my boyfriend booked the Britannia International Hotel (4 star) through the Roomex.com site. On arriving at the Hotel we were booked into room 1024. The hotel exterior and interior all seemed very pleasant. When we got to our room however, we were startled by a strange noise and on opening the window we realised that the DLR (Believe me its not a very light sounding railway) ran right past our window, we then realised that there was also a building site attached to the side of the hotel on which we were staying. We stayed in the room on the friday night but it was impossible to sleep having the trains run approximately every ten minutes till late at night and the building work commencing first thing in the morning. I rang the reception on saturday morning to change rooms and I found the gentleman to be quite polite however we were told that we would have to bring all our baggage downstairs to reception before we were allocated a new room. (We were on the 10th floor). At reception I had to go through the story again as to why we wanted to change rooms. Eventually we were given a room on the other side of the hotel on the ninth floor. When we went to our room we realised that the key didn't work. So I went back down to reception and was given another key and yes youv'e guessed it, that key didn't work either. At this stage both my boyfriend and I were growing anxious as we had wasted alot of our morning due to changing rooms and going up and down to reception. While at reception (and let me mention that I didn't receive any apology or recognition of the inconvenience) I asked the lady if it would be possible for her to locate a key that worked and then to leave it at reception for us. I was then told that a man would come upstairs to take a look at the door and that I would have to go back upstairs. I asked the lady again politely if it was really neccessary for me to go back to my room again and would it not be possible for them to leave a key reception for me, at this the lady laughed at me and said "but the man is going upstairs and you have to wait for him". I went back up to my room and waited for approximately 15 mins. When there was no sign of anyone coming I had to ring reception again in order to get someone to come up and fix the door. I feel that this level of service is completely unacceptable for a four star hotel and I feel cheated out of a nice stay. I feel also that the prices we paid were four star but we did not receive the service to match it. In addition on arriving at the hotel we were told that the breakfast was a continental one so my boyfriend and I decided to eat out instead, even though we had already paid for a b and b room. On the last day we realised that there was also a full English breakfast available which we would have availed of if we had known. At one stage we asked the concierge where we could get a boat ride up the Thames, he circled a Metro station and didn't give us any more information. On alighting from the Metro we soon learned that the station the consierge pointed too was incorrect and we ended up walking for an extra 20 mins to get to where we were supposed to go. In conclusion I am very disappointed in the service we received and it led us to missing out on some of our planned events. On the last day I looked around the hotel and noticed that the facillities in the hotel were very nice however we had lost so much confidence in the hotel early on that we did not avail of these facillities and tried to stay out of the hotel as much as possible. It makes me sad that our stay could have been so much nicer if only a bit more care and courtesy was taken by the hotel staff. Yours sincerely, Breda H

myself and my sister stayed in here in Aug `08 just for the one night as we were heading to a show.altho the docklock light rail train were just beside the hotel, the hotel itself was fairly far away from everything as it was situated in canary wharf which is the business district. The hotel itself can not be faulted on cleanliness,as were spotless and because it wasnt busy were we giving a room upgrade which was a very good nice of them.just its decor where very old fashion and would suit say it would appeal to older customers, and wasnt our cupa tea!we only ate in the hotel once and that was in jennys for breakfast and it very good.

Nice hotel in an excelent location right beside Canery Warf Underground station, great staff, very friendly and very helpful, at night there is a doorman who checks for room keys, this additional security is comforting. Really enjoyed our three nights there.

We were very impressed from walking into the hotel reception and the hotel, however, we were very disappointed with the washing facilities. We did speak to the reception on 2 separate occasions, as whenever attempted to have a shower it was either scaolding hot or freezing cold, we were either burning ourselves or freezing ourselves. Despite these 2 occaisions we had no luck and were very disappointed.
