Kensington is an affluent and densely populated district of West London, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, it is located 2.8 miles (4.5 km) west of Charing Cross. It is a great location to explore London and is also conveniently accessible from Heathrow Airport via the underground.
Its commercial heart is Kensington High Street which is the second busiest street in London due to the number and variety of shops along its length and it contains the well-known museum district of South Kensington.
Kensington is bordered by Notting Hill, Knightsbridge, Chelsea & Earl's Court and Hammersmith & Shepherd's Bush. Notable attractions and institutions in Kensington (or South Kensington) include: Kensington Palace in Kensington Gardens, the Royal Albert Hall opposite the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park, the Royal College of Music, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Heythrop College the Royal College of Art, and Imperial College London. The Olympia exhibition hall is just over the western border in Hammersmith.
Kensington is very well connected to the rest of London through three Underground lines - it is part of the central zone - in stations at High St Kensington, Gloucester Road and South Kensington. All three are served by the Circle and District Lines. The Piccadilly Line also links South Kensington and Gloucester Road to the West End in about 15 minutes, and in the other direction to Heathrow Airport in about 45 minutes.
